Всем ещё раз доброго времени суток.

Откатил порт x11/nvidia-driver до версии nvidia-driver-1.0.8762 и всё
заработало. С одной стороны - вопрос снят, а с другой - очеь хочется
понять в чём случился косяк? Если кто-нибудь сможет прокоментировать,
буду очень благодарен - _хочется понять_.

Ещё наблюдался эффект уменьшения размера шрифта - вылечилось так:
portupgrade -f fontconfig
portupgrade -fR "XFree86-*"
